The UN "talks" about Iran's nuclear enrichment program are very discouraging. The UN has a pathetic record of impotence, failing to back up resolution after resolution with real action, as we saw in the past with Saddam Hussein's WMDs in Iraq. (While we farted around with UN resolutions, Hussein had plenty of time to move his WMDs into Iran and other neighboring countries.) I think the United States is hamstringing itself by dealing through the UN structure with non-allied nations. The other "allied" nations of the world do not have the interests of the US at heart, and have a pacifist political world view, putting us all in danger while the storm of madmen gathers. Constantly worrying about our "image" in the world is all part of the hand-wringing people-pleasers who happen to be in positions of power in the US and in the world. These folks need therapy, my friends...serious in-depth exploration of why they feel the need for everyone to like them at all costs...even at the cost of their lives and the lives of their fellow American citizens. Thank god we have professional soldiers to do what needs to be done in Afghanistan and Iraq, and in other countries overseas if the need arises. Every single, solitary one of these miliary people VOLUNTEERED for military service. They have taken an oath to defend our country in any way that our leadership deems necessary, within the boundaries of our moral and legal code.
It is my opinion that the US should do exactly as we did with the Iraq war; take charge of our own destiny and that of our true ally Israel by blowing Iran off the face of the earth, as Adhmadinejad has plainly said Iran's goal is for Israel and its allies.
It is incomprehensible to me why the world refuses to fight fire with fire. As we continue to hold "talks" with Iran, North Korea, Venezuela and others, their forces are gathering against freedom-loving countries. Meanwhile, we just sit here passing "resolutions" which aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Instead of fighting fire, we're playing with it.
